New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah on December 5
flayed the announcement of a four-day unilateral ceasefire by Lashker-e-Toiba on the
occasion of Eid festival and said this could be a gimmick to ease the pressure from
security forces.
Warning the state government not to fall prey to such kind of tactics, Abdullah
said, "These groups have been resorting to similar moves earlier."
He termed the announcement of the LeT as a brief lull before the "dark nights" which
have been hovering over the state for last 12 years.
Abdullah reminded the new state government about similar tactics played by Pakistan-
based militant groups earlier in middle of 1990s and said, "Last time they ended the
ceasefire was with a new dimension in the militancy by carrying out suicide
attacks."
"Now I wonder what will they come after the present ceasefire," he said and added
that the pressure on the militants should be maintained so that they do not get time
to regroup.
