New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on December 5 greeted the people on the eve of
Eid-ul-Fitr.
"After fasting and prayers for one month, Eid-ul-Fitr is the day for thanking the
Almighty and spreading his love among fellow human beings, through prayers,
goodwill, generosity, kindness and charity. On this happy occasion of the festival
of Eid, I send my greetings and best wishes to all our people in India and abroad,"
Kalam said in his message.
Shekhawat said the sharing and charity associated with the festival exudes the
spirit of caring, brotherhood, love and compassion which would go a long way to
ensure welfare of the humanity.
"May this great festival foster goodwill and amity and fill the lives of all with
peace and prosperity," he said.
In his message, Vajpayee said, "The festival brings with it the message of universal
peace, tolerance, brotherhood and compassion."
He hoped that Eid celebrations would inspire people from all walks of life to re-
dedicate themselves to the task of strengthening communal harmony and nation-
building with renewed vigour.
