Srinagar: Militants again carried out an attack on the house of former National
Conference (NC) Minister, Sakeena Itoo, even as army troops shot dead a Hizbul
Mujahideen militant in an encounter in Kashmir Valley late on December 4, a police
spokesman said.
A grenade, lobbed by militants, exploded in the compound of Sakeena's heavily
guarded house at Damhal-Hanjipor in Anantanag district of South Kashmir, the
spokesman said.
He said a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, constable Bijender Singh, was
injured in the explosion, which took place when the former minister was not present
inside her house.
This was the second militant attack on Sakeena's house within four days. Earlier,
militants had fired automatic weapons at her house on December 1, but no casualty
had occurred.
Sakeena survived a series of deadly militant attacks at her residence and on her
cavalcade while campaigning for the September-October assembly elections in Jammu
and Kashmir.
The spokesman said troops of 'rashtriya rifles' gunned down Hizbul Mujahideen
militant, Abdul Majid alias Haq Nawas in a gunfight at village Zainapora in Pulwama
district of South Kashmiron the night of December 4. Some arms and ammunition were
also recovered from him.
