Washington: Concerned at the recent Palestinian casualties, United States (US) has
asked Israel to complete its anti-terrorist operations "as quickly as possible" and
take steps to prevent further civilian casualties in Israel.
"We condemn the recent Palestinian civilian casualties inflicted by Israeli military
activities," State Department spokesman Philip Reeker said adding, "Israel must
complete its anti-terrorist operations as quickly as possible to prevent further
Israeli casualties."
He also offered condolences to the victims' families on behalf of the US.
Reeker also voiced concern over reports that the Israeli defence forces destroyed a
World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse, along with more than 500 metric tons of food
aid in Gaza earlier this week.
"Bush administration thinks it is critical that the Israelis investigate the
circumstances of that incident and take immediate steps to ensure that civilians and
humanitarian facilities are not harmed," Reeker said on December 4.
"While the Bush administration acknowledges that continued terrorist attacks against
Israeli civilians and recognises Israel's need to take legitimate anti-terrorist
action, it urges the Israeli government to keep in mind the consequences of their
actions," Reeker said.
