Naga CM asks NCSM (IM) not to contest elections
Saturday, December 7 2002 17:43 Hrs (IST)

Kohima: Virtually launching the Congress campaign for next year's assembly polls in Nagaland, Chief Minister S C Jamir said that his party would win the elections, while asking the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah) (NCSM-IM) not to participate in it.

Jamir who announced a slew of schemes to be taken up by the next Congress government, at a public meeting in Tuensang district on December 6, said the NSCN (IM) should not participate in elections till the Naga political issue was settled.

He said that the NSCN(IM), which had demanded a sovereign state of Nagaland 'would definitely create problems for themselves' in taking part in elections, which would he held under the Indian Constitution.

"While on one hand, the NSCN (IM) is having political dialogue with the Government of India, on the other it is supporting candidates contesting in assembly elections," the Chief Minister said, adding "the people are confused under such circumstances".
