Ahmedabad: Brushing aside reports of a neck-to-neck fight between Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) and Congress in the crucial December 12 Gujarat polls, the Vishwa Hindu
Parishad (VHP) on December 7 exuded confidence that the "BJP will win over 130
seats".
"Looking at the overwhelming response to VHP's public rallies in Saurashtra, it is
clear that people will vote for BJP keeping the issue of terrorism in mind," VHP
international general secretary Praveen Togadia said.
The VHP leader, who is camping in Saurashtra, said the organisation, however,
intends to "intensify" its campaign in the region.
"There are apprehensions that Congress is strengthening in Saurashtra and Kutch.
Therefore, we are concentrating more on this region," he said, adding he will be
addressing "27 Dharma Sabhas in the next four days alone".
Togadia claimed that people in Saurashtra are "visibly frustrated" with Congress for
adopting a "soft stand" on terrorism and recent release of over 100 militants by
Congress-PDP (People's Democratic Party) government in Jammu and
Kashmir.
Three Dharma Sabhas will also be held in Mundra, Abdasa and Rapar towns in quake-hit
Kutch district, Togadia added.
