Ahmedabad: Gujarat caretaker government led by Narendra Modi has not yet complied with the orders of the Election Commission (EC) on transfer of two superintendents of police (SPs) of Mehsana and Sabarkantha districts.

The EC had issued orders for transfer of Mehsana SP N D Solanki and Sabarkantha SP A K Sharma on the grounds that their presence would "not be conducive" for the poll process.

"The two officials have not yet been transferred. We have got EC's instructions to transfer them immediately, but their file is under process," Home secretary K Nityanandam said on December 7 and refused to comment as to when a decision would be taken to clear the files relating to their transfers.

The EC in its letter to the state chief secretary had said that the presence of two SPs would "not be conducive to free and fair elections in the state".

"These officials should be transferred forthwith and replaced by suitable officers," the Commission had directed.

In a strongly worded letter, the EC had directed the state government that these officials should not be given any election-related work, including maintenance of law and order.
