Chennai: Asserting that Tamil Nadu special task force (STF) was in no way connected
with the death of former Karnataka minister H Nagappa, who was in captivity of
forest brigand Veerappan, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on December 8 night said it
was unfortunate some mischievous elements were now holding the force responsible for
the Janata Dal- United (JD-U) leader's death.
Expressing sadness over the "brutal murder of Nagappa by the forest brigand", she
said, "It is that unfortunate some mischievous elements are now trying to foment
trouble by spreading rumours that it was Tamil Nadu STF which was responsible for
the encounter in which Nagappa lost his life."
This was totally untrue. The STF had no role to play in Karnataka after the joint
operations were called off on the request of the government of that state, she
said.
Conveying her heartfelt condolences to the family of the former minister,
Jayalalithaa said, "This dastardly act deserves to be condemned in the strongest
terms."
