Mumbai: In keeping with a judicial order, 89 accused in 1993 bomb blast case,
including film star Sanjay Dutt, would appear before a special court on December 9
even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would conclude its argument seven
years after the commencement of the trial.
In another development, accused Parvez Zulfikar Qureshi would surrender before the
court in accordance with a judicial directive. The judge had earlier refused to
further extend his interim bail and asked him to surrender on December 9.
Qureshi, in custody for more than six years, was granted bail on April 24 by judge P
D Kode on a bond of Rs one lakh. As the accused was undergoing treatment for peptic
ulcers he urged for extension of bail from time to time.
The court had earlier referred him to the medical board of the government-owned J J
Hospital for a check up and asked the doctors to opine whether he could be treated
in custody.
The court curtailed exemption granted to Sanjay and 88 others and asked them to
appear on December 9 without fail. The judge P D Kode warned the accused that he
would issue non-bailable arrest warrant if they failed to turn up on that day.
According to CBI, some accused were suspected to have left the jurisdiction of the
court. As one of the conditions for granting them exemption from appearance was to
remain in city limits, the court has summoned them on December 9 to ascertain
whether they had violated the judicial orders.
The CBI would produce accused Mansoor Qureshi. The court had issued a non-bailable
arrest warrant against him as he had absented himself from the trial since September
21 without permission.
