BSUSC chairman, member sacked by Governor
Monday, December 9 2002 11:56 Hrs (IST)

India, East Patna: Bihar Governor V C Pande has sacked Bihar state university (constituent college) Service Commission (BSUSC) acting chairman Dr S D N Singh and commission member Durga Prasad on the ground that they are unfit to continue in office.

Services of both the acting chairman and member have been terminated with immediate effect on the ground that they are unfit to hold the office, a Raj Bhavan spokesman told on December 9.

The notification to this effect was issued by the Raj Bhavan on the night of December 8, he said, adding that the Governor has also sought clarification from another BSUSC member Dr H B P Sinha on the latter's reply on BSUSC's functioning.

Dr S D N Singh's term as BSUSC's acting Chairman was to expire on January 2, 2004 while Durga Prasad was to have retired on December 9.

The BSUSC is in news ever since the publication of results for appointments of over 1,100 lecturers which were pending for over five years.

The process of appointment of lecturers was stalled following a Raj Bhavan circular directing the vice-chancellors of state universities not to act on any recommendation with the signature of Krishnanand Prasad, officer-on-special duty, whose service was terminated by the Governor on November 30.

When contacted, Dr S D N Singh said he was removed for not sending the recommendations for appointments in accordance with the model offered by the Raj Bhavan for preparing the panel of successful candidates. He said he would move the Patna High Court against his dismissal.
