Vadodara: Union Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi on December 9 asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi to "learn and read" about history before making any baseless charges on historic events in the country.

The speeches made by Gandhi at her election rallies in Gujarat on December 8 "exposed" her knowledge on the history of the country, Joshi told reporters.

Alleging that the Congress and the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru were responsible for non-resolution of Kashmir issue, he also blamed former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi for releasing one lakh prisoners of war without resolving the Kashmir issue in 1971.

The insurgency problem in North East, Kashmir and elsewhere and creation of Khalistani leader Bhindrenwale were due to the policies of the Congress, Joshi alleged.

Claiming that Congress is the "mother of terrorism" in the country, Joshi said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre is taking several steps to tackle terrorism effectively and has been successful in containing it.

"Because of India's constant endeavour and efforts, several countries in the world have started realising about Pakistan's role in abetting and promoting terrorism across various parts of the world including World Trade Centre, Bali, Mombasa, Raghunath and Akshardham temples in India and in Moscow," the BJP leader claimed.

India is determined to wage a battle against the "proxy war" by Pakistan, Joshi said and emphasised the need for a policy to effectively tackle the menace of terrorism.
