Ahmedabad: With just two days left for Assembly elections in Gujarat, several people
have been taken into preventive custody on the basis of their antecedents to ensure
peaceful polling.
Police has also taken preventive action in the form of surety bonds from about 5,000
"potential trouble causers" in Gandhinagar range alone, Inspector General of Police
Promod Kumar told reporters on December 10.
He said several preventive arrests and detentions have been made in his range that
comprises Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha and Mehsana districts, to ensure peaceful
elections.
These steps have been taken based on the antecedents of the persons, Kumar
said.
Preventive action in the form of a surety bond is taken from a person who has a
criminal antecedent or police record and moreover, has the potential to disturb the
situation during elections, said Kumar.
