Bangalore: Coming under attack over its handling of the Nagappa abduction crisis,
Karnataka government on December 10 said it was ready to bring out a white paper on
the hostage drama, "if need be".
"If need be, we will bring out the white paper," Karnataka Home Minister Mallikarjun
Kharge told reporters, against the backdrop of the Krishna government facing an
onslaught, particularly from the Opposition parties.
Asked about the controversy over whether Nagappa was killed by forest brigand
Veerappan or the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force (STF), he said there should be no
attempts to create a divide between the two states when efforts were on to capture
the bandit.
Questioned if he ruled out the possibility of Nagappa having fallen to the Tamil
Nadu STF bullet, he said the post-mortem report was yet to be received and
investigation was also on.
"When the investigation is on, I don't want to get into the controversy on whether
it was Tamil Nadu STF or Veerappan who killed Nagappa," Kharge said.
He said the STFs of both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were continuing their operations
to catch Veerappan. Karnataka Security Adviser T Srinivasulu held discussions on
December 10 with Tamil Nadu STF chief Walter Dawaram on the operations, he added.
