Ahmedabad: The president of All India Bhikkhu Community Dr Dhammavirya Bhanteji on December 10 dubbed Gujarat caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a "nautanki".

"It is surprising that he (Modi) talks about Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel in his speeches. But unfortunately, he has not adopted the principles of non-violence and effective administration from these two great sons of Gujarat's soil," Bhanteji, who is a Rajya Sabha member, told reporters in Ahmedabad.

"Lotus of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is poisonous and it is spewing venom into the society. It is my fervent appeal to people to awaken and remove the lotus from its roots and dispose it of," the Buddhist monk said.

Bhanteji was extremely critical of BJP, both at the Centre as well as state, for allegedly bringing "economic development of the country to a screeching halt by inciting communal passions".

"Since last two days I and my 10 colleagues have met about 10,000 people from a cross section of society including Muslims, dalits, backward classes and others. All of them whole-heartedly held the BJP responsible for the riots and consequent shattering of businesses in the state," he claimed.
