Surat: Polling in Surat (West) for the December 12 Assembly elections has been countermanded following the death of Gujarat Minister of State for Law and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hemant Chapatwala, contesting from the assembly constituency.

The Surat district returning officer, in a release, said the new date for the elections would be announced later.

The 59-year-old Chapatwala was suffering from a kidney problem.
