New Delhi: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was heading for a clear majority in
Gujarat Assembly elections, according to an exit poll which gave it 101 seats in the
182-member House.
Congress was tipped to get 69 seats while independents and others were expected to
win 11 seats, according to the Zee News-Taleem exit poll that was aired just at the
conclusion of the poll on December 12.
The poll, which covered more than 9,000 voters, predicted that BJP would get 57 per
cent of vote share against 34 per cent for Congress.
While predicting a 16-seat gain for BJP, the poll indicated a loss of an equal
number of seats for Congress.
Even region-wise, BJP was predicted to be well ahead of Congress.
