New Delhi: Exactly a year after five heavily armed Pakistani terrorists stormed
Parliament House, the government on December 13 said the complex was much safer now
than what it was earlier.
A lot has been done. A committee has been set up which has gone through several
exercises and steps have been taken to strengthen its security, Deputy Prime
Minister L K Advani told a private channel.
"It is much safer than what it was earlier... Entry even into the compound is not as
easy as it was at that point of time (December 13, 2001)," Advani said.
He said Parilament House and the central hall would have witnessed a blood bath
literally, a blood bath which would have undermined the whole political set up of
India, when five Pakistani terrorists armed with AK-47 and hand grenades carried out
the attack.
"Democracy would have been brutally mauled," he said praising the security forces,
who thwarted the attack. It is because of the alertness of the watch and ward of the
security men outside, belonging to Delhi Police or Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF), the terrorists could not succeed in their attempt, he said.
