Maharashta govt mum on reports of Anees' release
Friday, December 13 2002 18:05 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Maharashtra government on December 13 refused to comment whether Anees Ibrahim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and wanted in connection with serial Mumbai bomb blasts of 1993, has been released on bail by United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities.

"We do not have any official information either from the Centre or the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation)," Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh said when his reaction was sought on reports that Anees, arrested on December 7 in Dubai, has been released by UAE authorities.

"We had submitted entire file of Anees' involvement in various crimes here to the Centre and its various investigative agencies," Singh said.

"Now it is for the Centre or investigating agencies to confirm it," he added.

However, police sources claimed that Anees has been released on bail.
