Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a key constituent in the
state's ruling coalition, on December 13 indicated that it was not totally happy
with Chief Minister Mayawati's style of functioning but asserted her government
would complete its term.
State BJP chief Vinay Katiyar told reporters, "There is a little bit of improvement
in Mayawati's style of functioning but much more has to be done."
"It is high time that the Chief Minister improved her style of functioning. I will
meet Mayawati soon and convey the feelings of BJP workers to her once again," he
said.
However, Katiyar said Mayawati would complete her tenure.
"If any attempt is made to dethrone her, then we will be left with no alternative
other than elections," he said.
BJP had raised objections to Mayawati's style of functioning with senior leader and
Cabinet minister Babu Ram threatening to quit the ministry over the Chief
Minister's "biased attitude towards BJP workers". He had also alleged that state
bureaucracy was "partisan" towards BJP Legislators and workers.
Katiyar and BJP Legislature party leader Lalji Tandon had conveyed party workers'
feelings to the Chief Minister.
Katiyar admitted that dissident activities have affected BJP's popularity but said
it was a temporary phase. "Attempts are on to bring party activities back to rails,"
he said.
