Guwahati: After a long nine months of captivity Pradeep Sarkar, son of Congress
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Chandan Sarkar has been released by his
captors, the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and Kamtapur Liberation
Organisation (KLO) at Kumargram near Alipurduar in West Bengal.
Pradeep, who was released by his captors, walked for four days from the camps of
Bhutan to reach Barabissa on the Assam-Bengal border on December 13 morning,
according to Chandan Sarkar.
Sarkar said his 20-year-old son walked for four days from one camp to the other side
in Bhutan and reached a place called Pipping on December 12 night.
From there he trekked through rough terrains and jungles to reach a border town
Kumargram from where he came to Barabissa and telephoned him, the MLA said.
Sarkar said his son although weak and mentally 'broken' was in good health.
Pradeep, a final year school student was kidnapped jointly by the ULFA and KLO from
Falakatta in West Bengal on March 4 last, which followed hectic parleys between the
Assam and the West Bengal governments and joint police operation to rescue the
boy.
