New Delhi: The US is aggressively pressing Pakistan to curb terrorism and the
proposal to attack Iraq is part of the strategy to focus on one country at a time in
the ongoing fight against the menace, US Senator Sam Brownback said on December 13.
Asked about Indian concerns on the US adopting double standards by treating Pakistan
on a different pedestal while dealing with terrorism, he said it is a sequential war
in which all countries cannot be dealt with in one go.
"We are pressing Pakistan aggressively on terrorism, I called up President Musharraf
when there was a danger of confrontation with India and told him he has to control
cross-border infiltration," he said while addressing an industry
gathering.
"There should not be an obsession with Pakistan in this country. I am now going to
China, not Pakistan," he said.
The world has benefited by engaging Afghanistan which was a destabilising force in
the region and in the "sequential war", focus has now to be on Iraq as not only does
it have terrorists on its soil but is involved in making chemical, biological and
nuclear weapons, he added.
