Dubai: Anees Ibrahim, wanted by the Interpol for crimes committed in India including
the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, has been released from jail here and deported to
Pakistan, a newspaper reported on December 14.
Security sources in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on December 13 confirmed that
Ibrahim, 42, who was arrested on December 5 on suspicion of involvement in the
murder of an Indian businessman Irfan G in Dubai in 1995, has been deported to
Pakistan, 'Khaleej Times' said.
Irfan's remains were found in a villa in al-Wasl area in November when maintenance
work was being carried out in the villa and there were strong suspicions that Anees
Ibrahim was involved in the murder, the report said.
Anees, younger brother of former Mumbai don Dawood Ibrahim, entered the UAE on fake
documents and was arrested a few days after his arrival. An official with Central
Bureau of Investigation A K Gupta, who had camped here for about a week to try and
extradite Anees, returned to New Delhi on December 13.
Earlier India's Home Minister L K Advani said in Ahmdabad that he hoped that the UAE
will help extradite Anees.
