India extending full co-operation: Lankan minister
Sunday, December 15 2002 16:39 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Sri Lankan Defence and Civil Aviation minister, Tilak Marapona, said that India was extending its full co-operation to Sri Lankan government in finding an amicable solution to the Tamils issue and bringing in peace in the island nation.

"Without India's co-operation, in a country like ours, nothing will be possible. India is also anxious that peace is restored in the island nation soon," he said in an informal chat with reporters at the Meenambakkam airport on his arrival from Colombo on December 15.

Tilak said he has come to India to study the transport system, especially the railways, as Sri Lankan government was keen to upgrade its transport system.

Besides holding talks with officials of Integral Coach Factory in Chennai on purchase of coaches for the Sri Lankan Railways, he said he would be visiting Delhi and Varanasi. He would also make a courtesy call on the Defence Minister, George Fernandes in Delhi.
