New Delhi: Counselling restraint, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on December 16
said BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) thumping victory in Gujarat Assembly polls should
be taken with humility without any display of arrogance.
Advani also categorically stated that it was now the responsibility of the new
government not only to wipe out terrorism, the plank on which it won the elections,
but also provide good governance to the people of the state.
The Deputy Premier was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a painting exhibition
by renowned Gujarati artist Mohsin Shaikh on the December 13 terrorist strike on
Parliament.
Recalling that all Opposition parties had resorted to the slogan of 'Indira Hatao'
(remove Indira Gandhi) and the late Prime Minister had countered it with 'Garibi
Hatao' (remove
poverty), Advani said, "while the greatest crisis before the nation is terrorism, the
Opposition in the recent polls had the one point agenda of Modi Hatao (remove
Narendra Modi)."
"The people of Gujarat have given their spontaneous response. Now it is our
responsibility to wipe out terrorism. This kind of victory should be treated with
'Vinay'
(humility). There should be no display of 'Ahankar' (arrogance). The emphasis should
be on providing good governance," he said.
Complimenting Shaikh for his paintings based on Ramayana, Srimad Bhagwad Gita and
Mahabharata, he said had the terrorists succeeded in their mission, it would have
been a greater catastrophe than the WTC attacks.
