Srinagar: A gun battle is on between Army and an unspecified number of militants holed up in a house in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir in which two Rashtriya Rifles personnel were injured on December 16, official sources said.

The encounter began when an Army patrol, on a tip off, reached village Kundpora this afternoon (Dec 16) and began searching a house, the sources said.

The militants, hiding in a nearby house, lobbed grenades at them and opened heavy fire injuring JCO Kundan Singh and Sepoy Ravinder Singh.

Army personnel immediately took up positions and returned the fire and in the ensuing gun battle the house was gutted, the sources said adding the encounter was still on.

The security personnel have cordoned off the village and reinforcements have been rushed there, the sources said.
