New Delhi: Rejecting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Gujarat Assembly
elections on the plank of "divisive politics", senior party leader and Union
Minister Pramod Mahajan on December 15 night said the Assembly elections in several
states next year would be fought on the basis of the National Democratic Alliance
(NDA) agenda and development issues.

"The Gujarat result will be the greatest morale-booster for the BJP workers after
the party suffered setbacks in some recent Assembly elections. But for the coming
Assembly polls, there will be several issues," he told Star News.
To a question about VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) politics in Gujarat and whether it
would influence the BJP's election agenda in other states, Mahajan said, "VHP
politics should be addressed to VHP and not me. We will follow the NDA
agenda."
Accusing the media of "belittling" the BJP's victory by saying that the party had
won mainly in riot-hit areas, Mahajan said, "For the sake of argument even if these
seats were deleted from the final tally, BJP would still have got a
majority."
Congress general secretary in-charge of Gujarat Kamal Nath said the "Modi-Togadia
(BJP-VHP) politics" will not work in the rest of the country.
