Ahmedabad: Narendra Modi, the architect of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) resounding
victory in the Gujarat Assembly elections, was on December 16re-elected as leader of
the state Legislature party and would be sworn in as Chief Minister on December 22.
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani would be
present at the swearing-in ceremony.
The announcement was made by BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu soon after Modi was
elected as the Legislature party leader at a meeting of the newly-elected MLAs at
Gandhinagar.
Modi's name was proposed by senior Minister Ashok Bhatt and seconded by six MLAs
drawn from different regions of the state at a meeting at which Naidu was also
present.
Following his election, Modi was garlanded by Naidu while former Gujarat Chief
Minister Keshubhai Patel presented him with a traditional turban.
BJP treasurer Ramdas Agarwal, who is incharge of party affairs in Gujarat, conducted
the meeting.
