New Delhi: Shocked over the crushing defeat of the party in Gujarat Assembly
elections, an upset Congress president Sonia Gandhi has discussed with party leaders
briefly the reasons for party's debacle in the state.
"I talked to her telephonically yesterday. Naturally, she was upset," Gujarat
Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shankersinh Vaghela said on December
16.
Vaghela, who arrived in New Delhi on December 15 night along with Congress
Legislature Party leader Amar Sinh Chaudhary, is likely to meet Gandhi along with
other state leaders when the electoral outcome would be discussed.
Chaudhary is likely to meet Gandhi separately to brief her on the causes of
defeat.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Kamal Nath met Gandhi on
December 15 night and was understood to have discussed the rout.
Asked if he would take moral responsibility and resign, Vaghela said, "My meeting
with party chief has nothing to do with resignation. We will take people's questions
and confront the new government."
Besides, he said central party leadership along with state leaders would analyse
threadbare the reasons behind the defeat and how to tackle them in future.
