Ahmedabad: Curfew was lifted on December 18 from sensitive areas of Vadodara and
Rajkot districts of Gujarat, which witnessed arson and murder after the announcement
of Gujarat Assembly polls on December 15, state police control said.
Curfew was clamped in certain sensitive areas of the two districts on December 15
after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s victory procession was stoned by rival groups,
in which one person was killed and six others were injured.
In Vadodara city, the communally sensitive Raopura and Panigate areas were put under
curfew as a "precautionary measure" after group clashes which forced police to fire
in the air to disperse the rioting mobs.
In Rajkot city, Jambleshwar area was tense two days ago after a BJP worker was done
to death by a group of alleged Congress supporters after the victory procession
passed through a sensitive locality.
Police has arrested over 100 persons in connection with the violence and three in
connection with murder in Vadodara.
