Fresh trouble for govt, allies oppose divestment
Wednesday, December 18 2002 20:16 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Samata Party and Shiv Sena, major allies of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), on December 18 opposed the disinvestment process with the former even threatening withdrawal of support or split in the party if the government went ahead with selling of PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings).

"I challenge that if the government does not respond to our demand, we will withdraw support. If the party does not withdraw support, then there will be a division in the party," Samata Party MP Prabhunath Singh said during a discussion on government's disinvestment policy in Lok Sabha.
