New Delhi: The much awaited co-ordination committee to monitor implementation of
Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir is
likely to be announced soon with state Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad as its
chairman.
The proposed co-ordination committee would have two members each from Congress and
Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) and a member each from Communist Party of India-
Marxist (CPM)-led Democratic People's Forum (DPF) and Panthers' Party, according to
informed sources.
The sources said that while Congress was still to decide on the name of the second
member besides Azad, PDP was likely to put forward the names of its party vice
presidents Mehbooba Mufti and Muzzafar Hussain Beig.
From the DPF, an alliance of CPM and independent MLAs, Mohammed Yusouf Tarigami was
to be nominated for the co-ordination committee, while Panthers' Party Chief Bhim
Singh, with four MLAS, would be representing his party, the sources said.
They said the state Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed had discussed the issue with the
Congress president Sonia Gandhi during his recent visit here.
The alliance partners had agreed on October 26 to set up a co-ordination committee
that would monitor implementation of the Common Minimum Programme adopted by the
political parties.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited Cabinet reshuffle of the state Cabinet has been deferred
for sometime, as the discussion between Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Sonia Gandhi
remained inconclusive because of the Gujarat elections.
