Kochi: Navy has not yet fixed any date for the test trial of the two Unmanned Aerial
Vehicles (UAV), parts of which had been airlifted from Israel to Kochi, Naval
sources said.
The UAV parts would have to be first assembled before the test trial dates could be
fixed, the sources told reporters.
Selected Naval personnel from the Southern Naval command and other commands had
undergone preliminary training in Israel for handling the UAV and were presently
imparting training to the others involved in the project, sources said.
The first consignment of the UAV parts had arrived in a jumbo aircraft of the Israel
airline EL-AL, from Tel Aviv on December 17at the Nedumbassery Airport. Though naval
sources were tightlipped at first about the consignment, later in the night they
confirmed that the parts were for two UAVs.
Being a training command and having a naval airport, the Southern Naval Command was
considered ideal for setting up the major UAV base in India.
