New Delhi: The strategy for the crucial Assembly elections in four states slated for
next year and the 'Kelkar report on tax reforms' top the agenda of the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) National executive beginning here on December 23.
"A strategy for the Assembly elections scheduled for next year would be discussed at
the meeting where final touches would be given to the poll strategy in Himachal
Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya which go to polls in February," party
general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters on December 21.
"The Rajnath committee which finalised the report on 'Kelkar recommendations' would
also be discussed in detail," he said after a meeting of the central office bearers
to finalise the agenda.
The meeting, chaired by party president M Venkaiah Naidu approved the political
resolution to be taken up at the Executive. The resolution would cover the
prevailing political situation in the country in the wake of the party's spectacular
victory in the recent Gujarat assembly elections.
Naqvi said a wide range of organisational matters including membership drive, zonal
meetings and Naidu's 'go to village' programme would also figure prominently at the
National Executive.
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will deliver the valedictory address at the
National Executive, which will also be attended by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani
and several central ministers as also Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Among those who attended the meeting were party vice president Harsh Vardhan and
party general secretaries Rajnath Singh, Anita Arya and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and
