Islamabad: Former Indian Prime Minister I.K. Gujral has called on former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Dubai and invited her to deliver a lecture at the India-Pakistani Friendship Society.

A press release issued here by Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on December 21 said that Gujral met the self-exiled former Prime Minister on December 18 and invited her to visit New Delhi.

Bhutto made waves in India and Pakistan when she visited last year during which she advocated normalisation of relations between the two countries on the pattern of India-China relations, even while attempting to resolve the Kashmir issue.

She also criticised the Pakistan military establishment for permitting the pan- Islamic militant group's cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Her comments and meetings with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and other Indian leaders was strongly criticised by sections of the military officials and politicians from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
