Srinagar: A day after the assassination of its legislator Abdul Aziz Mir, the ruling
People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir on December 21 said it will not
be cowed down by the designs of 'elements inimical to peace' to sabotage the peace
process in the state and vowed to take its programme to resolve the Kashmir issue to
its logical end.
"We have taken a vow to take the programme of the party to restore peace and work
for permanent resolution of the Kashmir issue to its logical end. We will not
hesitate to render sacrifices for achieving these goals," the party said in a
statement after a condolence meeting at the party headquarters at Srinagar.
The meeting, presided over by party general secretary Tariq Hamid Karra and
attended, among others, by party Members of the Legislative Assembly, Mohmmed
Sarfaraz Khan, Pirzada Mohammed Hussain, Javid Mustafa Mir and Ghulam Nabi Lone,
expressed grief and shock over the killing of Mir by unidentified gunmen at his
native place Konibal-Pampore on December 20.
The speakers termed Mir as the 'first martyr' in the way of restoration of peace in
the trouble-torn state and asked the government to take every step to identify the
killers and take appropriate action against them.
