Ram Temple still part of BJP's agenda: Naqvi
Saturday, December 21 2002 20:41 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on December 21 said the Ram temple issue, Article 370 and Uniform Civil Code continued to be part of the party's agenda but as a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition it would abide the national agenda for governance.

"Even though these three issues are on our agenda, as we are part of the NDA government, we will abide by the NDA's national agenda for governance," party spokesman and general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here.

"BJP is moving ahead on its principles and in the Centre it is the NDA agenda that the party is adhering to," he said.

On Ram Temple issue he said, "We have always held that the issue be resolved through a court verdict or consensus among the concerned parties."

On BJP leaders and Members of Parliament (MPs) participating in programmes of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), he said, "All party MPs and MLAs (Members of Legislative Assembly) are free to attend functions of social organisations," though he declined to comment on the programmes of VHP.

To a question that 'hindutva' contributed to the victory of BJP in Gujarat, Naqvi said, "All nationalist organisations and people contributed to the victory in Gujarat."
