Bangalore: Vasco Sports Club edged Indian Telephone Industries 2-1 in a high-pitched
encounter of the Oil PSU seventh National Football League on Monday.
Jules Alberto came out with a superb header to put the Goan outfit ahead 1-0 in the
34th minute at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
Then, in the 66th minute, ITI's Akshay Das scored a self-goal, a lapse which proved
costly and for which it had to pay a heavy price.
From 0-2 down, the local side, which is in the bottom of the table with just two
points (two draws) from its seven encounters and yet to taste victory, scaled up its
game several notches as Vasco came under tremendous pressure later in the second
half.
In the 80th minute, ITI pulled one back, as Najeeb came out with a splendid header
off a James Singh pass.
Vasco's goalie and skipper Rogerio Ramoc did a fine job under the bar, thwarting
repeated attempts of opponents and came out with good saves.
Tempers ran really high in the second half that saw Vasco's Satish Minz and Ramos
being shown red card and sent out of the field.
With this win, Vasco, who was placed fourth in the table going into this match, has
15 points from eight encounters, while relegation worries are still haunting ITI.
