Godhra panel to record public evidence on Jan 6
Monday, December 23 2002 14:34 Hrs (IST)

Vadodara: The two-member riot inquiry commission, probing the widespread communal riot in Gujarat after 56 'Ram sevaks' were burnt alive in Sabarmati Express at Godhra on February 27, would record evidence of people of Dahod and Panchmahal districts from January 6 at Godhra to seek more information about the carnage.

"We will hold the hearing from January 6 to record evidence of people of Dahod and Panchamahal for Godhra carnage and its aftermath," justice (retired) K G Shah and justice G T Nanavati, who inspected the ill-fated coach at Godhra on December 22, said.

The commission also held meeting with senior district and police officials to explore the possibility of conducting the deposition here for the people of Vadodara and Bharuch, they said.

However, they would decide the date for proceedings here later, the justices added.
