Jammu: Alleging that the Mufti Mohammed Sayeed-led government in Jammu and Kashmir
was being run by Congress president Sonia Gandhi by proxy, National Conference chief
Omar Abdullah on December 23 said the government's "healing touch" should not be only
for militants.
Abdullah told a public meeting at Baderwah that the destiny of people of the state
was being decided by "masters" of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)-Congress
coalition in Delhi.
Without naming Gandhi, he alleged the new dispensation had "surrendered before 10
Janpath (Gandhi's residence in Delhi) which is ruling the state by proxy."
Abdullah, Minister of State for External Affairs, said his party welcomed the Sayeed
government's "healing touch" policy but added it should not be restricted to applying
balm to militants and Hurriyat Conference."
All efforts must be made to remove the gun culture from the state, he said and asked
the government to ensure that militants did not disturb peace and indulge in mindless
killing of civilians.
