New Delhi: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on December 24 made a veiled attack on
the Opposition for its failure to accept the school curriculum despite the Supreme
Court giving a clean chit to the government over allegations of saffronising the
education.
"A debate is on as to how the school curriculum should be. The matter goes to Court
and even the verdict of the Court is not accepted (by some people)...Politicising
everything is not good. It should be within limits," Vajpayee said while releasing a
commemorative postage stamp on Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidhyalaya, Hardwar.
The Prime Minister said the need of the hour was to have consensus on school
curriculum so that the country moved ahead.
Remembering the teachings of Maharishi Dayanand Sarawati and Swami Shradhanand,
Vajpayee said about 200 Gurukuls were functioning in the country and there was need
to increase their numbers.
On primary education, he said it was the right of every child and called upon the
non-government organisations (NGOs) to make their contribution in the field of
spreading education to every corner of the country.
Gurukul Kangri Hardwar, was established in 1902.
