Three Nepal Maoists arrested in West Bengal
Sunday, December 29 2002 15:15 Hrs (IST)

Siliguri: Three Maoists of Nepal were arrested from Tensing Norgey bus terminus in the town, police said in Siliguri on December 29.

The three-Tika Pokhrel, Krishna Limboo and Sunil Kumar Rajbanshi had come from Nepal and were planning to go to Patna to attend a 'high level' meeting jointly organised by the PW (People's War) and MCC (Mao9ist Communist Centre), additional superintendent of police, Rajeev Misra told reporters.

The Maoists arrested last night (Dec 28), had no firearms with them, Misra said.

The location of the meeting was not known to the arrested persons as it was kept secret. An organiser was supposed to receive them at Patna and lead them to the unknown destination, Misra said.

After interrogation it was revealed that the militants were active in Nepal, West Bengal, Assam and Bihar. It was also established that Nepal Maoists have direct links with ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam), he said adding their relation with KLO in North Bengal could not be ruled out.

Misra said Pokhrel is the president of Nepal Rashtriya Swatantra Vidyarthi Union Krantikari, Limboo is an office bearer of Kirat Mukti Morcha and Rajbanshi, a resident of Guwahati is an activist of banned Akhil Bharati Nepali Eakta Samaj.

Misra said that Nepal, Bihar, and Assam police were informed to make a concerted effort to combat the militant forces. A Nepalese police team was expected to come to Siliguri to interrogate the arrested Maoists shortly, he said.
