Hyderabad: At least 10 people were feared killed and an equal number injured when
the Secunderabad-Manmad Express rammed into a goods train near Ghatnandur station in
Maharashtra in the wee hours on January 3, Railway sources said.
Three bogies - a general compartment, an AC compartment and a luggage-brake van –
jumped off the tracks as a result of the impact, South Central Railways (SCR)
sources, quoting preliminary reports, said.
Top SCR officials have rushed to the site of the accident, around 370 kms from
Hyderabad, they said.
South Central Railways general manager S M Sangla, who rushed to the spot, said two
bodies have been extricated so far. Some more people were feared trapped, he added.
Sangla said the driver of the Express saw the stationary goods train and managed to
slow down his train, thereby reducing the impact of the collision to some extent.
The Manmad bound 7064 Secunderabad-Manmad express rammed into a goods train at 1.20
am (IST) resulting in derailment of four coaches, SCR sources said.
