Patna: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on January 4 said it would not press for
imposition of President's rule in Bihar though the situation warranted it.
BJP national general secretary and spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters that
since Congress and Left parties were bound to oppose imposition of President's rule
in Bihar, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) did not propose to bring any
resolution to this effect as it lacked the required strength in the Rajya
Sabha.
Naqvi, who was despatched by the party leadership to take stock of the situation
after the gunning down of three students in a fake police encounter on December 28,
held the Congress responsible for the sorry state of affairs in Bihar.
Naqvi said Rabri Devi had lost moral right to continue in office since "jungle raj"
prevailed in the state and it was being led by a "brute and joker by
proxy".
He said ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe or providing monetary
compensation was not sufficient as the state government owed an answer to the people
for the excesses of its police.
The BJP leader said he would apprise party president Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister
Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani of the situation
prevailing in the state after the fake encounter and the wave of public
protests.
