Dalai favours bilateral talks on Tibet's autonomy
Wednesday, January 8 2003 16:29 Hrs (IST)

Patna: The spiritual head of Buddhists, the Dalai Lama has said he has favoured bilateral talks for grant of autonomy to Tibet under the Constitution of the People's Republic of China.

"I have been making efforts for bilateral talks to secure the long-cherished desire for the autonomy of the Tibetans' holy land," he told a group of reporters in Gaya on his arrival from Patna to participate in the nine-day-long Kalchakra Puja.

Brushing aside the threat perceptions, the Dalai Lama said the government of India was doing everything possible for his security.

He expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements made for the Kalchakra Puja in Bodh Gaya.

In reply to a question, the Dalai Lama said he was healthy and quite well.

Lama expressed hope that he would be able to conduct the Kalchakra initiations.

Last year, he could not conduct the third Kalchakra Puja due to certain medical complications.

The Kalchakra Puja beginning from January 12 would conclude on January 20.
