BSF locked in an encounter with MPLF in Manipur
Wednesday, January 8 2003 19:59 Hrs (IST)

Imphal: BSF (Border Security Force) was on January 8 locked with an encounter with the insurgents belonging to the Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF) near Sajik Tampak in Chandel district bordering Myanmar.

Casualty, if any, on either side was not immediately known, official reports said.

The reports said a BSF patrol, following a tip off, rushed to the spot, about 90 kms South East of Imphal, and immediately faced gunfire. Soon ensued the encounter.

Sajik Tampak, where hardly has any security force entered earlier because of its inaccessibility, is considered as a base of MPLF.

MPLF, which had earlier been formed by the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), has been fighting for 'Independent Manipur', the sources said.
