Kargil: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 8 said
there is no justification for killing innocent people, especially when the ground
has been prepared for unconditional talks to resolve the Kashmir issue.
"Why do you target innocents every day and shed their blood unnecessary when the
Prime Minister, Home Minister and leader of the major political party of the country
(Congress) have agreed to initiate a dialogue for lasting peace in the state?" he
asked while addressing a public meeting at the border town of Kargil.
"The killings must end and we should prepare for the dialogue... My government wants
to heal the wounds of the victims of militancy...we want to wipe the tears from the
eyes of every victims and do justice with every one and every region... The task
before us is enormous and we need support of everyone to achieve the goal," Sayeed
said.
"Hundreds of our sisters were widowed and children orphaned during 12 years of
militancy. Our brave jawans of lost their lives and their families faced unending
agonies and miseries. People were caught between two guns and faced unfathomed
misery," he said.
The people of the state faced psychological crisis with parents failing to prevent
their children from treading the dangerous path. The state went into turmoil and
every one suffered in the process, he said, adding, "We have to come out of it and
bring peace in our state."
He lauded the people of Kargil for keeping militancy at safe distance, saying they
have demonstrated maturity and collective will to deal with the situation.
