Modi warns Pak for inciting terrorism in state
Wednesday, January 8 2003 10:19 Hrs (IST)

Gujarat election results
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi once again sounded a word of caution against "semi terrorism" being incited by Pakistan in the state and called upon the need for "abhayam" (fearlessness) to thwart the menace.

Modi, who single-handedly orchestrated Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) resounding victory in the crucial Gujarat polls on December 12, was felicitated by "Friends of India", a group of non-resident Gujaratis at an elaborate function on January 7 evening.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said, "Pakistan is trying to create internal conflicts in India and Gujarat by ushering in fake currency, drug trafficking and spreading literature that holds Bajrang Dal and other organisations responsible for attacks on churches.

"There is need to build an environment of peace, brotherhood and progress through Abhayam," he stressed.

The Chief Minister also spelt out "knowledge, water, power, human resources and security" as "Panchamrit" (five nectars) for overall development of Gujarat.

Modi, who earned the sobriquet of "Chhote Sardar" in the course of party's electioneering, also remarked in a lighter vein, "I am not a Sardar, but surely Asardar (effective)."
