Southern states dominate 3rd day of Jr National Athletics

Shimoga: Athletes from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh hosts Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh dominated the third day proceedings on Thursday in the 18th National Junior Athletic Championship underway here.

While athletes from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh won four gold medals for their states, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh finished the day with three gold medals each, followed by Delhi with two.

Tamil Nadu won three golds in girls section in Javelin Throw, High Jump and Triple Jump events and another in Boy's section in Hammer throw.

Kerala also bagged three golds in girls events of Long Jump, 100 metres Hurdles (two events) and in Boy's section Long jump. Tamil Nadu and Kerala won two golds on the opening day.

Uttar Pradesh boys claimed the top position in Javelin, Hammer and Shotput and Karnataka in the 1500 metres run in Boys under 18 section, 110 metres hurdles in Boys under 20 category and High Jump in the under 16 girls section.

Delhi took the gold in Boys under 20 shot put event and the Girls under 20 Discus.

Andhra Pradesh won four golds in 100 metres hurdles boys under 16, 110 metres hurdles Boy's under 18 events and 400 metres run in boys under 18 and 20 events.

Punjab, Orissa, West Bengal, Haryana and Rajasthan accounted for a gold medal each.
