New Delhi: "Jab jee chahe tab aa jana, sada khulen hain dwar" (come when you feel
like, our doors are always open) is how Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee welcomed
the Indian diaspora in his poetic style.
Vajpayee, who addressed the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in English, concluded his speech
with a poem in Hindi to a spontaneous applause from the audience which included
noted personalities who have made a mark abroad.
Videsh main desh ki shaan barhai,
Bharat ki pehchaan,
Sada hamare dil mein bastey,
Kaise kahein mehmaan,
Door-door reh kar bhi bhool na paye,
Maa ka pyaar,
Jis mitti ki gandh bikhri,
Saat samundar paar,
Bharat maa key beton (betiyan bhi shamil hai),
Bharat ka satkaar,
Jab jee chahay tab aa jana,
Sada khulay hain dwaar
(You have enhanced India's prestige abroad, India's identity,
you always are in our hearts, how do we call you guests,
staying far you could not forget mother's love, the fragrance
of the soil, across the seven seas, India's sons - daughters
are included - India's hospitality, whenever you feel like do
come, our doors are always open).
