'Willing' Adik too says he was not asked to quit
Tuesday, January 14 2003 11:40 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Govindrao Adik had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, after which he said neither he had resigned, nor he has been asked to quit.

After a meeting with Gandhi, Adik told reporters that he discussed organisational matters and apprised her of the political situation in the state.

Adik's meeting with the Congress president came a day after Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh met with Gandhi, during when the political situation in the state came in for a detailed review amidst indications that the CM was on his way out.

Adik said he would abide by whatever decision taken by the Congress high command regarding any changes in the party leadership in the state.

"If I am asked to resign, I would do so," he said.

Adik, who is known to have differences with the Chief Minister, said the Vilasrao Deshmukh government had done a "good" job despite all the difficulties.
